Police in Kogi arrest two suspected armed robbers, recover homemade pistol

The Kogi State Police Command have arrested Mohammed Chelim and Oneh Mohammed, two suspected armed robbers, in Dekina Local Government Area along Anyigba-Egume road in the Easter flank of the State.

The arrest occurred during a Third-Party Insurance policy enforcement exercise, where officers found a locally made pistol in their possession after intercepting them at a checkpoint on a motorcycle.

When interrogated, the suspects failed to offer a plausible explanation for their movements. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a locally made pistol in their possession.

Following operation’s success, CP Dantawaye commended officers for their diligence, vigilance, and commitment to duty and reassured the people of Kogi State that the Command remains resolute in collaborating with other security agencies to rid the State of criminal elements

A press statement from the Kogi State Police Command issued on February 5th, 2025, by SP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Commissioner of Police,  Miller G. Dantawaye commended officers for their diligence, vigilance, and commitment to duty. He reassured the people of Kogi State that the Command remains resolute in collaborating with other security agencies to rid the State of criminal elements and urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information on criminal activities

Global Times Nigeria reports that CP Miller G. Dantawaye assumed office as the Kogi State Commissioner of Police on January 23, 2025, following the retirement of his predecessor, CP Bertrand Onuoha.

The Police Service Commission approved his appointment. Dantawaye, previously a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo and Yobe States, is the 39th Commissioner of Police deployed to Kogi State.

He has vowed to tackle crime in Kogi, urging residents to collaborate with the police. He stressed his strategic approach to crime prevention, which includes strengthening intelligence gathering, community policing, and proactive engagement with various security agencies.

He also received the support of Ata Igala, who pledged the full support of the Igala Kingdom in providing intelligence and cooperation to aid security operations.

Since assumption of office as Kogi Commissioner of Police, Dantawaye has called for security collaboration between the Police, Judiciary and traditional rulers to curb crimes.

He is also seeking support from religious organizations and has received the support of religious leaders from ECWA Lokoja DCC, who pledged to provide valuable information to aid security efforts.

CP Dantawaye also received a delegation from Globacom (Glo), who pledged to provide network services and adequate access, strengthening communication within the force

CP Dantawaye has directed total compliance with third-party insurance for all vehicles in Kogi State.
