Subject to a last-minute reversal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is poised to dissolve his cabinet at any moment as part of efforts to fulfill campaign promises made during his electioneering.
According to a high-level source cited by The Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, September 8, the move is expected to ‘make way for the introduction of fresh perspectives that can revitalize the cabinet.’
According to the source, President Tinubu may dissolve the cabinet before departing for the United States to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to convene on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, and adjourn on Monday, September 30, 2024.
The report revealed that President Tinubu was aware of the criticisms against some cabinet members regarding their performance and was set to implement a reshuffle to achieve his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
The source said:
President Tinubu is unhappy with the progress of a number of his ministers and is determined to remove them from office.
The source added that the list of those who will replace the ministers to be axed is ready.

“On returning from UNGA, the president will reconstitute the cabinet.”
Furthermore, the newspaper stated that a former minister in the Muhammadu Buhari administration is likely to be one of the new ministerial-designates.

Ibrahim Modibbo, a prominent figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Tinubu to substantiate his commitments by effecting a substantial reduction in the number of cabinet ministers.
Modibbo, who served as director of media and communications for ex-presidential aspirant Nuhu Ribadu, declared that Tinubu has three years to redefine the governance landscape.
The ruling party member also described Nigeria’s economic team led by Wale Edun (minister of finance), as “just newspaper tigers”.
