In recent days, I watched with dismay the trending outburst of Former Deputy Governor, Chief Edward David Onoja against the former Governor, HE, Dr. Yahaya Adoza Bello. In the viral Video, the former Deputy Governor did say that his former Boss promised to make him Governor of Kogi State after his administration and didn’t kept to his words.
Let’s flash back to the genesis when His Excellency, Yahaya Adoza Bello came into Office, especially on his inauguration day. During the inauguration of GYB as Governor, the whole world saw how he was asking after Edward Onoja and he made him the Chief of Staff.
The question now is, of all other Governors that served in Kogi State before His Excellency, Yahaya Adoza Bello, who among them appointed someone who is not their tribe as Chief of Staff?
The truth is No Governor in Kogi State has done such except Dr. Yahaya Adoza Bello. He didn’t stopped at that, he went further to appoint sons and daughters from Kogi East to various juicy positions during his and as well, accorded attention to developing the axis just as expected of a Governor.
As time passes, from the position of Chief of Staff, Yahaya Bello made you the Deputy Governor of the State; a rare move ever seen in the Political terrain of Kogi State. What else do you want from a man that has done this for you and your people?
Under the watch of Dr. Yahaya Bello, the unity amongst Kogites, especially between the West, Central and the Eastern Senatorial Districts, and all Kogites are happy for it.
While serving as the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Bello promised to involve youth in governance and today , we have vibrant youth championing the Leadership wheel in various capacities.
Former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello gave us Ahmed Usman Ododo as his Successor and today, we are happy for it. His decision to choose Ododo over all other capable Leaders that jostle for the number one seat of the State must have been a very tough and most difficult decision to make but then, we are happy for it.
What we need now is governance and support for the progress of the State. It is unwise to start digging up old wounds at a point where everyone is expected to focus on contributing to the progress of the Confluence State. The Yahaya Bello effect of unity has broken so many shackles and we cannot afford to go back to the past where enmity runs through our veins. Now is the time to be more united as Kogites. Now is the time to build bridges and mend broken relationships.
Trying to showcase His Excellency, Dr. Yahaya Adoza Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State as one that does not keep to promise is a wrong move. We should always remember roots, the opportunities given and be appreciative of all that was done for us.
In Kogi State, UNITED we STAND, divided we fall. Let’s embrace unity to move our dear State to greater heights.
