TSC: Nasarawa Assembly inaugurates 8-man committee to investigate recruitment of over 3000 teachers
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau PhD, has set up an 8-man Adhoc Committee to probe issues related to the recruitment of over 3000 new teachers in the State.
Chaired by Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi, APC Kokona East and Chairman House Committee on Rules and Business, the Committee was inaugurated today in Lafia.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of fairness in their investigation. Dr. Jatau commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for approving the teacher recruitment in the State.
” About a year now, His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule has approved the recruitment of teachers in the state.
” The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has done the recruitment but there were allegations of over recruitment and selling of jobs to applicants, who hardly get three square meal a day” he said.
Jatau said that the constitution has empowered the House to carry out investigation on issues that would affect the development of the State.
” The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has empowered us to investigate any issue that will affect the development of the State.
” As elected representatives, it is our duties to know what is going on in the TSC and to bring possible solution that will end the matter” he added.
The Speaker urged the committee to do their job without fear or favour.
” We will not leave any stone unturned. I believe that at the end of the day, we will get a report that applicants and our people will be happy with ” he said.
Responding, Hon. Daniel Ogazi, the Chairman of the Adhoc Committee appreciated the Speaker for the confidence reposed on them.
Ogazi pledged to discharge their duties without fear or favour.
” On behalf of the Committee, I want to appreciate you for your leadership style and for the confidence reposed on us.
” We will ensure that we carry out our assignment diligently in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” We will not mind to suspend our recess to do our work and ensure that justice is done on the matter” he said.
Hon. Ogazi assured the people of the State of the Committee’s commitment to do justice stressing that the investigation will be holistic as all involved will be invited and will be engaged by the House including the consultants, TSC management and applicants among others.
It would be reported that the members of the 8 man Adhoc Committee are Hon. Daniel Ogazi as Chairman, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, Co- Chairman, Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader as member.
Other members are Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, Hon. Barr. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Yusuf Aliyu Chunbaya and Hon. Dr Peter Ibrahim Akwe with the Deputy Clerk of the House Mr. Paul Okugya as Secretary.
It would be reported that on May 28th, 2025, the House has urged the state government to exclude the 1000 newly employed teachers, who are receiving their salary from the ongoing teachers screening exercise in the State.
Rt. Hon Mohammed Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the House made the call while reading the House resolution after Hon. Daniel Ogazi brought the matter during the House proceedings in Lafia.
Oyanki said that the 1000 teachers, who are receiving their salary were employed in line with Civil Service rules and be excluded from the ongoing screening exercise in the state in the interest of justice.
He also urged the consultant conducting the screening exercise to return the retrieved appointment letters to the 1000 teachers on government pay roll with immediate effect.
According to him, this is sad and unfortunate, these 1000 teachers have been duly employed and are receiving their salaries for 9 months now.
