Tunde Bakere visits Tinubu, seeking a functional nation within his lifetime

Pastor Tunde Bakare, founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, met privately with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on June 4, 2025, to discuss national development and the future of Nigeria. Bakare emphasized his personal vision of seeing a nation that works within his lifetime and called for stronger collaboration between the North and South to steer Nigeria toward predictable progress and unity.

He described the meeting as constructive, noting that he left his suggestions with the President to act upon as he sees fit.

Bakare expressed hope that divine guidance would help Nigeria overcome its challenges and stressed the need for concrete action to alleviate poverty and foster brotherhood among Nigerians.

Pastor Tunde Bakare had previously criticized President Bola Tinubu’s approach to Nigeria’s legislative process because he believed Tinubu was undermining the independence of the National Assembly, effectively turning it into “a haven for legislative rascality” and the “48th member” of his cabinet.

Bakare argued that under Tinubu’s influence, the legislature had become an extension of the executive, rubber-stamping the President’s decisions and violating the principle of separation of powers, which he saw as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

He urged Tinubu to “stop playing God,” warning that unlimited power was dangerous and that the current state of legislative oversight was collapsing, putting the country at risk of political instability
