Edo Poll: APC Chieftain, Kinsley Topa Dumps Party, joins PDP, declares support for Ighodalo

A fresh political development has begun ahead of slated Edo State September governorship election, where a chieftain and high-ranking official of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Ogini Kingsley Topa, has defected from his current party to joined People’s Democratic Party, party.
Kinsley Topa said he was motivated by Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s desire to transform and unite the State better than he met it.

Some APC officials who do not wants their names in print said they have lost one of their best mobilized, noted that this political maneuvering can have significant implications for the outcome of elections and the balance of power within a political party.
Hon Ogini Kingsley Topa hails from Akoko Edo local government area of Edo State, and had joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Topa is a renowned grassroot mobilizer popularly referred to as ‘ward 1 governor’ was former chairman of the committee for works and Housing in the local government area.
According to him, he left the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Governor Godwin Obaseki in developmental strides.
Topa made the disclosure in an interview with Leadership Newspaper, described Governor Godwin Obaseki’s appointment of Marvellous Omobayo from Akoko-Edo as the Deputy governor was a clear demonstration of his love for the people of Akoko-Edo.
” For years, we’ve been politically marginalised despite being the largest council in the state.
“It time we play down the issue of party politics and embrace developmental politics for the benefit of our people.
Obaseki has shown that he is the liberator of the oppressed and the marginalized in the state.”
“Yes, I was in APC but with what Obaseki has done for the Akoko-Edo people by appointing one of our illustrious son Marvellous Omobayo to the exulted position of the deputy governor, will go down in history as one who has the interest of the Akoko-Edo people at heart. We are very happy for that for giving us a sense of belonging.
“I’m using this opportunity to call on all Akoko-Edo indigene and Edolites to join hands with the Obaseki led PDP to produce Asue Ighodalo as the next governor. I can assure you that Akoko-Edo is PDP and PDP is Akoko-Edo.”
