Kogi NDE trains 20 unemployed youths in Environmental beautification Skills

The National Directorate of Employment Kogi State has flagged-off and conducted Orientation for Twenty (20) unemployed youths currently acquiring Environmental Beautification Skills in Hard Landscaping (Laying of Tiles), Soft Landscaping (Raising of Nurseries & Flowers) and Casting and Installation of Plaster of Paris (POP).

During the event, Kogi State Government promised that it will continue to partner with relevant agencies to address unemployment and youth restiveness in the State

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo gave the assurance in a message to the Orientation and Flag off Ceremony of the Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) at the Lokoja Office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Governor Ododo who was represented by the Director-General (DG) Protocol Government House, Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim expressed appreciation to NDE for various programmes that have added value to what the state government is doing.

Governor Ododo said the State Government is looking forward to partner with relevant agencies in the aspect of skill acquisition for self reliant.

He explained that some youths are trapped in the streets with social vices due to idleness emphasising that NDE must be commended for giving productive training to youths to earn a living.

While urging NDE not to relent in empowering the youths, the Governor urged them to accept the assurance of partnership with Kogi State Government.

In his welcome address, the State Coordinator of NDE, Mr Abiodun Ibidun Amos who expressed appreciation to the Director General of NDE, Mallam Abubarkar Nuhu Fikpo for considering Kogi in all intervention programs said the Environmental Beautification Scheme of NDE was designed to train interested youths in the aspect of aesthetics and urban renewal.

He congratulated the selected trainees, noting that only twenty (20) were given the privilege in each State of the Federation and Federal Capital Territory due to the Paucity of funds.

The State Coordinator urged them to take their training serious and cooperate with their Master Trainers to get the best out of the Scheme.

In a remark, a former beneficiary of the Scheme belonging to year 2021 set, Mr Elvis Oputa thanked God for the journey so far noting that his status as an unemployed graduate forced him to embark on skills acquisition in production and laying of interlock blocks and design.

He emphasised that perseverance and devotion are necessary traits to succeed as an artisan in business world.

In his response, one of the Trainees currently undergoing the training; Mr Obimini Richard expressed appreciation to NDE Management and other stakeholders for tackling the menace of unemployment in the Country.
