NGO sensitises FCT rural women on menstrual, personal hygiene, distribute pads

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), the Children Impact And Development Initiative (CIADI) have sanitized girls/ women of Kango community in Kuje area council of the FCT on menstrual and personal hygiene in the area.
Speaking during the sensitization programme, the executive director of CIADI, Dr Mrs Adetoun Dally, said the organization decided to carry out the sensitize women especially girls to maintain menstrual and personal hygiene.
She said the sensitization programme was in commemoration of the celebration of the World Health Hygiene Day (WHHD), while emphasizing the collective effort to eliminate the stigma around menstruation and ensure every girl has access to the resources they need for menstrual health and hygiene.
She said the foundation has adopted Kango, Gaube and Tukpechi communities of the council, which she said the sensitization programme on menstrual and personal hygiene will take place.
She also urged the girls and women to ensure proper disposal of sanitary pads, even as she also urged advised women that uses clothes during their menstrual period to ensure they keep such clothes clean always.
“We also emphasized the need for women and girls on how to ensure proper way of disposing their menstrual pads, as they wrapped it in nylons and trash it instead of dumping them anyhow,” she said.
She, however, stressed on the need for the women to maintain personal hygiene throwing keeping their surroundings and houses clean so that sickness can be far from them.

The executive director of CIADI also disclosed that her organization will also be carrying out quarterly free medical outreach across some rural communities of the territory.
“And aside that, we also deworm school children at the beginning of every school term in order to keep them healthy and fit,” she added.
Our correspondent report that the NGO at the end of the sensitization programme distributed free menstrual pads, macleans and tooth brush to the participants.
