Mr. Martin Otse, a prominent Nigerian social media critic known as VeryDarkMan, has responded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s summons regarding his claims of corruption within the commission.
VeryDarkMan shared a video on Instagram on Wednesday, urging the EFCC to investigate its own officers before requesting his presence regarding allegations made against them.
He observed that the EFCC’s press release sidestepped the key issue, inquiring why Bobrisky’s custody status was not explicitly confirmed.
“Bobrisky is the alleged suspect, and the EFCC should have conducted verification. If the individual releasing the statement couldn’t confirm Bobrisky’s detention, it indicates a procedural issue.”
He urged the commission to conduct an internal inquiry prior to inviting individuals like himself, stating, “Before summoning someone of my stature, you should thoroughly investigate your officers, particularly those involved in Bobrisky’s case.”
“Evaluate their financial records and activities. Following that assessment, I, Martin Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, can be contacted.”
“VeryDarkMan articulated distrust in the EFCC, specifying that he would only honour their invitation if the investigation is conducted at their Abuja main office.”
“You’re asking me to come to Lagos when EFCC headquarters is in Abuja – it doesn’t make sense; I suggest inviting Bobrisky to Abuja for the investigation instead.”
“Furthermore, I lack the financial resources, specifically N15 million, to resolve any issues, and I do not have a influential patron. I harbor distrust towards you, and I am concerned that you may attempt to deceive me. I recommend investigating your own officers before engaging with me.”
“In a lighthearted remark, he mentioned that if he were to contemplate going, the EFCC would have to provide a first-class flight and premium hotel stay.”
“To secure my attendance, you must arrange for a first-class ticket and accommodations at a five-star hotel. Please provide a formal invitation, inclusive of my compensation, as I will not accept anything less than N15 million.”
His response was prompted by the EFCC’s request for assistance in investigating claims made by Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, in a call recording shared by VeryDarkMan, alleging that EFCC officials received N15 million to dismiss money laundering allegations.
